Full Album Friday 10: Dave Grohl's Lost Pocketwatch

In April of 1994, Kurt Cobain's death marked the end of both Nirvana and for the most part the genre to which it belonged. With Cobain out of the way, the grunge era of the early 90s faded away (to the pop explosion of the late 90s, ugh). Many people might think that Nirvana's demise is what led to the formation of the Foo Fighters, fronted by Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl. And while it is true that Foo Fighters' self titled debut didn't his shelves until July of the following year, the truth is that Cobain's death was merely the catalyst for the Foo's creation. Grohl has been writing songs even early on in his time with Nirvana. In 1993 when Nirvana released its Heart-Shaped Box single, one of the B-sides was Grohl's own Marigold. Originally recorded in 1990 under the title, Color Pictures of a Marigold, this song was from Dave Grohl's demo. Using the pseudonym Late! Grohl recorded the demo, titled Pocketwatch, and distributed it himself. It was given out to labels, friends, and word has it a few made it around to shows. Although it was never commercially available, some of the individual songs have been released.  In took me a long time to dig all these songs up, although it is probably a lot easier these days. Still, I'd like to save you the time and share with you the early years of what became the Foo Fighters. Grohl early work is still some of my favourite and is definitely worth checking out.
