Copa America Roster Shock

After a long wait and lots of debate, here is the roster the United States will bring to the Gold Cup.
GOALKEEPERS (2) – Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Kasey Keller (Borussia Moenchengladbach)

DEFENDERS (8) – Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Bobby Boswell (D.C. United), Dan Califf (Aalborg BK), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Jay DeMerit (Watford FC), Drew Moor (FC Dallas), Heath Pearce (FC Nordsjælland), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC)

MIDFIELDERS (8) – Kyle Beckerman (Colorado Rapids), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Benny Feilhaber (Hamburger SV), Eddie Gaven (Columbus Crew), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Justin Mapp (Chicago Fire), Lee Nguyen (PSV Eindhoven), Ben Olsen (D.C.United)

FORWARDS (4) – Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Herculez Gomez (Colorado Rapids), Eddie Johnson (Kansas City Wizards), Taylor Twellman (New England Revolution)

MLSU'S Take - Wow, wow, and wow! Bob bit the bullet and brought in a heck of a lot of younger talent. I love it!

For all the haters out there, I will say it is about time Bob Bradley gave a look to Marvell Wynne. For all the talk that he's not polished, he's not good on the ball, he's just fast, we'll will see right before our very eyes. How far along is one the most talked about defensive prospect in recent memory? I think he will surprise quite a few people.

Drew Moor is an underrated MLS defender who has really come into his own in recent weeks. He's also a threat on set pieces, but I think this tournament might just be a learning experience for him. I'm not sure how much playing time he will get.

For those not familiar with the Scandinavian leagues, Dan Califf and Heath Pearce are the two biggest American success stories in that part of the world. Both have been leaders for their clubs and are regarded as top defenders in Denmark's top flight.

A quick glance at the midfielder list, one name truly sticks out: Eddie Gaven. Written off by many insiders after a subpar season and a half, but Bradley hopes he can help Gaven find that magic that made the former MetroStars player a MLS Best XI just a couple seasons ago.

The lack of right midfield options could see Gaven get some serious playing time in Copa America. Sacha Klejstan could also see a major role, but the guy I see having a breakout tournament is Lee Nguyen.

Moving along to the forwards, welcome Herculez Gomez! Where are the forwards who can shoot from distance and provide quality attacking flair? Well, you are looking at him. Gomez has enjoyed a nice start to the season and has been rewarded with a callup from Bob Bradley. MLSU has been tracking Gomez for awhile and quite frankly.is surprised it has taken this long for Gomez to get a callup given the lack of other options.

Bradley will look to the more experienced forwards (Eddie Johnson and Taylor Twellman) for some scoring opportunities, but the bench opens Gomez along with Charlie Davies may provide that attacking punch that the US needs in Copa America.
