In Fable, you start as a young boy in a serene little hamlet, performing the usual training-wheel tasks designed to familiarize you with the PC's keyboard/mouse interface. For the most part, it's an improvement over the Xbox controller, and you can get to the map or your inventory a lot faster using the keyboard's function keys. Movement is essentially a Zelda lift, right down to the no-jumping and target circle-strafing bits. The camera, which sits just behind you, turns when you turn, so looking around while moving is klutzy, but in combat that stubborn adherence always keeps your current target in view.
The next thing you'll notice as you try to scare up money to buy your sister a birthday present, is that The Lost Chapters is pretty darned stunning on the PC. Think World of Warcraft and that light-bloomed Disneyfied architecture, except with much higher-resolution textures. Autumnal trees scream color the way Emeril Lagasse screams "bam!" and rarely has there been such a rich synthesis of hue and atmosphere, like the sun setting behind blue-white mountain crags as snow begins to fall, or the creepy feeling you get when sneaking along a dim, torch-lit thicket past a pack of snarling Balverines (werewolves) as thunder claws around the gray clouds above.
