Originally Justice (Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Auge) created this track for a remix competition for British psych-poppers Simian. Since then, the song has been picked up and championed by all the major players on the dj circuit from Jacques Lu Cont through to Mylo and was the talk of the town at the Miami Music Conference and last year's Sonar festival. The premise is very simple, dubbed 'hooligan house' by the British press, 'We are your Friends' filters the sample from Simian and ravages it with harsh noise and distortion transforming it into an electro-beast. Set loose on the dance-floors it is shattering with it's stuttery and abrasive production until at precicely 1'53 minutes when it extinguishes all hope and morphs into a cute synthey number. Fittingly signed to Ed Banger Records (Daft Punk), Justice mark a revival in the sophisticated sounds of French filtered house pioneered by Daft Punk with Hot Chip leading the pack. This song is the anthem of the summer, but it remains to be seen if they can follow it up with an album loaded with dance gems like this.
